I forgot to answer a few questions. Some of you (collette and strawgirl) asked what I do for a living. I (Currently, hopefully for a long time) work for a large international relief organization and travel around the country to women’s conferences trying to garner awareness for our organization –both for donations and for general awareness and advocacy. I also speak to community groups, schools and businesses about our work. What exactly do we (the organization) do? We work with the poorest communities in over 60 countries around the world- the people we work with live on less than 2 dollars a day, most of them live on less than 1 dollar a day. Since 70% of the world’s poor are women and girls, we focus on them to make the most impact with our work.
I learned something the other day—if you give a woman $1.00, she will spend 90 cents on her family and her community. If you give a man the same dollar, only 35 cents will go to his family and community. I thought that was so interesting and shocking at the same time.
Anyway, that is what I do. I don’t want to post on my open blog exactly where I work, but if you want to know to learn more (PS: don’t feel like you have to give anything, I just like sharing the work we do with others), post a comment and I will email you.

Wow that sounds like a very rewarding job. I’d love to know teh company’s site and find out more. We don’t have a lot of money to ever really donate but I like being aware and learning more.
